Natural Sciences

Scienze naturali

The Bachelor's Degree in Natural Sciences aims to train Naturalist Technologists, graduates with multidisciplinary skills based on a solid knowledge of scientific disciplines and techniques for analysing natural and semi-natural systems.

Graduates will therefore be able to identify and classify plants, animals, minerals and rocks, understand the relationships between the biotic and abiotic components of ecosystems, and assess the effects of human activities on them.

The course is part of a particularly rich territorial reality in terms of biodiversity and natural resources, and its location is strategic due to its proximity to the Asinara National Park and other protected areas.

The training programme is structured to develop specific skills in various fields of Natural Sciences, starting from a solid foundation of basic knowledge. Teaching activities include lectures, tutorials, laboratories and fieldwork, seminars and experimental activities. Lectures are held in the classrooms of the teaching complex in Via Vienna, while laboratory activities mainly take place at the Bionaturalistic Centre in Via Piandanna 4, where teaching and research laboratories are available. All classrooms are equipped for modern multimedia teaching. Field activities mainly take place within the region.

Internships can be carried out not only in the various departments of the University of Sassari, but also in public and private institutions. International experience can be gained through the Erasmus and Ulisse programmes.

The main career opportunities for graduates in Natural Sciences are in the following areas:

  • public bodies responsible for monitoring the territory (ministries, ARPA, ISPRA, regional and municipal departments, technical territorial services);
  • natural heritage management bodies (parks, protected areas, nature reserves);
  • private professional firms engaged in activities related to the analysis and assessment of natural resources, restoration and rehabilitation works, impact assessment, monitoring of natural and environmental resources (bioindicators of stress, pollution, eutrophication);
  • university departments or other public and private research institutions (natural science museums, bodies of the National Research Council, botanical gardens, aquariums) engaged in naturalistic research;
  • public and private structures involved in teaching and disseminating scientific culture (schools, museums, non-profit organisations, etc.).

Graduates in Natural Sciences are eligible to take the state exam to become a graduate agricultural technician, junior biologist, graduate agricultural expert or junior landscape planner in order to practise professionally.

For the 2025/2026 academic year, admission to the course is open, and enrolment can be completed from 1 August 2025.
